Congratulations Explosive 8 and the rest of the Kakapo team for doing soooo well in the poetry finals. In our class Pippa came first and Matthew came second in the year 5 category. Then Zara came second in the year 6 category. I special WELL DONE to Zainab too, who performed extremely well. It was a difficult job for the judges to choose only 6.

Claude Monet was born in Paris, France, in 1840. He loved painting the outdoors and helped invent a style of art called impressionism. We looked at his painting of Water Lillies and created our own using pastel and dye. Monet lived in a house that had a big water garden in it.
Well down to all the poets today who memorized and creatively shared a poem they enjoyed with us. A high standard was set for those sharing tomorrow. Remember to speak loud and clear and use EXPRESSION so the audience is entertained. The Poetry Presentation finals are on friday at Kakapo Sharing time, invite along your families if you wish.
Each Tuesday we learn about safe cycling. It is important to be a competent cyclist so we are safe on the roads and so we can compete to the best of our ability in the School Triathlon.
We learnt about A,B,C. This is about checking that there is AIR in our tyres, that the BRAKES are working, and that the CHAIN is oiled and not rusty.
We learnt about the POWER POSITION to help us get started on our bike.
We practiced SCOOTING and riding through a skinny gaps between cones. Some had a go at riding along while standing up on the pedals.
Well done to Zainab and Zara who were able to ride in a space that kept on shrinking and could even turn around to go different directions in a small space. Many of us were great at those skills.
Thank You Chris Foggin for your expertise.
All the best for the Triathlon next week on Wednesday morning!
Brrrrrr! On monday Explosive 8, Fast 15, Enthusiastic 3 and Funtastic 14 went for a Polar swim. More than 20 containers of ice where brought to school and put in the pool.
We wondered all about how the ice melted with a jagged edge instead of a smooth edge. We wondered about the lines and bubbles we could see in the ice and what the white parts of the ice are. It melted into rings that we could hang on our arms and fingers. It was great buddy class bonding time too.
Tonight your notebook homework has gone home and this is to be brought back to school each friday. There are 3 parts to this homework:
1. Learn to spell the 10 words correctly. If you’ve learnt them all in the first couple of nights make sure you know their meanings too and as a bonus can put them into a sentence.
2. Learn 10 basic facts off by heart so you can give the answer instantly.
3. Read! anything and everything that is suitable and enjoyable. Record it down. It could be a book, comic, magazine, newspaper, computer article, instruction manual etc. Find something that captures you and relax. You could read to someone, listen to someone read to you, read to your pet or just read on your own.
I understand lives get very busy at times and we get very tired too so do your best and remember that it is YOUR responsibility to keep your notebook safe and get the work done, NOT your parents/caregivers. If you can’t finish your homework get someone at home to write a note in the notebook.
See you tomorrow,
Miss McIvor
